Rio Ferdinand has been informed by Manchester United that he won’t be offered a new contract this summer, leaving him free to leave the club.

Ferdinand will now follow Nemanja Vidic and most likely Patrice Evra out of the club, with his fellow team mates looking set to both go to Inter Milan now the season has ended. He has had a tough season at Old Trafford, with the whole team underperforming under ex-manager David Moyes. Vidic announced months ago that he would be leaving come the end of the season, while Evra has also yet to be offered a new contract, and could now be following Vidic to the San Siro as reported today on sillyseason.

This is something that Ferdinand could already have been aware of, as he reportedly told team mates yesterday that United’s last game of the season against Southampton yesterday would be his last for the club and asked them to sign a ball as a memento.

He has enjoyed a successful career at Manchester United since joining from Leeds United for an English transfer record ÂŁ29.1million in July 2002, making a total of 455 appearences for the club, but struggling this season to get into the team under Moyes.
