Brendan Rodgers has hailed Celtic’s performance against St Johnstone.

Celtic won the contest by 2-0 to extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

Speaking to the club’s official website after Celtic’s win over St Johnstone, manager Brendan Rodgers hailed his side’s performance in the 2-0 win. He said, “At half-time, we had to change the shape of the midfield and the wingers. We had more numbers in the centre and cover the areas wide which allowed us to find the gaps.”

Rodgers added, “These types of games are always very difficult against a good side who defend well. But we scored two goals, their goalkeeper makes a couple of really great saves in either half and we should have had a clear penalty. The only thing young Foster didn’t do was catch it. Apart from that, I’m so happy with how we played and the intensity with which we played. It was very good.”

Speaking about Celtic’s chances of retaining the SPFL title, the English gaffer said, “There’s still a load more games to go. We’re just entering into the beginning of February so there’s still a long, long way. But I think we’ve looked at that free game for the last two months and wondered if we were going to win it because we’re playing against a good side. We did that and I thought we played very nice. We have six points, a good goal difference, clean sheets and defending very well, but still a way to go.”
