The Colombian opted to fight for his place at the Santiago Bernabeu

James Rodriguez rejected a £76 million move to Inter Milan this summer, vowing, instead, to fight for his place in Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid team.

The 25-year-old enjoyed a successful debut season at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2014, following an impressive World Cup campaign with Colombia, however, has since fallen down the club’s pecking order.

Suning Holding Group bought Inter Milan in the summer and spent big in their attempts to return the Serie A outfit back to the top of the table, and were ready to further bolster their squad with the addition of the Colombian.

But is has now been revealed that both Inter and Real had agreed a massive £76 million fee for the player, however, Rodriguez was keen to remain in the Spanish capital, despite knowing that he will have a limited role.

The midfielder has a tough job to convince Zidane that he should be picked on a more frequent basis, with Casemiro impressing in a similar position.

Questions about his attitude and injuries have also been problematic and played a part in Rodriguez featuring for much of last season on the bench.

However, despite being in the shadows of Real’s first choice stars, the Colombian has started the season well with a goal and three assists in three starts for Los Blancos.
