Danny Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge could both be out of next summer’s Euros

England manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed his fears over the fitness of striking-duo Danny Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge.

The Three Lions qualified for next summer’s competition by beating San Marino on Saturday, but Hodgson has fears that he may be without two of his star-strikers.

Welbeck started the qualifying campaign off in great fashion, becoming the top goalscorer in the competition, but since his injury problems with his knee, he’s been out of action since April.

As for Sturridge, he missed most of last season with numerous different issues, but after going to America to recover, he is aiming for a comeback this month.

However, Hodgson is aware of the Liverpool man’s fitness problems, and he’s also worried for the long-term health of the Arsenal striker, who he thinks could miss up to six months.

Hodgson’s Striking Headache

“Well, Welbeck bothers me now,” said Hodgson. “He has already been out for me since March and for Arsenal since April, so that’s over four months. And now I hear it’s another six months.

“Daniel is a little bit the same. It’s getting on for a year now. But I’ve got to make certain that there are a few Vardys and Kanes and Walcotts and that because we can’t keep going around talking about the ones who aren’t there.”
