Goalkeeping position is covered at the La Liga club

Sevilla have brought their Victor Valdes interest to an end after reviewing their current ‘keeper options.

The Spaniard is surplus to requirements at Manchester United after a fallout with manager Louis van Gaal and is desperate to leave Old Trafford.

The 33-year old came close to moving to Besiktas in the summer, but talks fell through and it was believed that Sevilla would take Valdes on a free transfer in the January transfer window.

However, Sevilla president Jose Castro has ruled out a move to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan for the ex-Barcelona shot-stopper.

‘Valdes is not an option’

When speaking to Spanish media outlet Europa Pass, Castro said: “Valdes is not an option, we have no intention of finding goalkeeper cover. We have three or four players for that position and Sergio Rico is the one closest to keeping it for many years.”

He also added: “If we have good ‘keepers, we don’t have to go looking elsewhere for them.”
