Game-week 2 of the Premier League is over and here is our starting XI

After game-week 2 of the Premier League campaign, SillySeason have put together their Team of the Week.

Now this team only includes players who featured over the weekend, so no Liverpool or Bournemouth player can feature in the XI as they played tonight.

So without wasting anyone’s time, lets get straight into our starting XI of players who impressed us the most this week.

Goalkeeper – Asmir Begovic – Chelsea

Begovic CFC

Despite being on the receiving end of a 3-0 loss, Asmir Begovic managed to keep the scoreline somewhat respectable for Chelsea.

Playing instead of the suspended Thibaut Courtois, the Bosnian kept Sergio Aguero at bay numerous times in the first-half, and if it wasn’t for him, the scoreline could have easily been doubled.

Right-Back – Joel Ward – Crystal Palace

The Crystal Palace defender had a tough job keeping Arsenal‘s wingers under wraps, and despite the loss, he played a key role in keeping the Eagles‘ defence tight.

Managed to net himself the equaliser as well with a fine finish from outside the box.

Centre-Back – Vincent Kompany – Manchester City

Komp

The Manchester City captain put in a phenomenal performance to keep the lively Blues attack at bay and also became the club’s league top scorer this season by heading home his side’s second goal of the game, to all but kill off the Champions.

Centre-Back – Eric Dier – Tottenham Hotspur

The young Spurs defender netted to give his side the lead and looked confident in the centre back role, managing to cope with a dynamic Stoke presence up front.

The United left-back looks to be improving under Louis van Gaal as he put in a solid performance against Aston Villa on Friday night, escaping a caution throughout the game, unlike his full back partner Matteo Darmian.

Centre-Midfield – Ross Barkley – Everton

The Everton star has shown once again the talent he has by stunning Southampton with confident dribbling and passing before unleashing a sublime finish to seal the Toffees‘ win and keep Roberto Martinez all smiles.

Centre-Midfield – Mesut Ozil – Arsenal

The German has been under intense scrutiny following his disappointing performance against West Ham but he silenced the doubters by pulling off a variety of key passes and flicks, looking the Gunners‘ most bright creator in the game.

Amidst controversy this week, Jamie Vardy enjoyed a splendid performance against the Hammers as he helped his side take their place in second spot and re-establish Claudio Ranieri in the Premier League.

The Belgian will have enjoyed Saturday’s game as he scored to become the highest scoring Belgian in Premier League history, giving the Southampton defence problems all match, he looks ready for a good season ahead.

Many believe him to be the best player in the Premier League and it isn’t hard to see why, with persistence paying off, he netted past Asmir Begovic to sink Chelsea and help City on their way to the top of the table.
