Chelsea preparing to spend £500million on new ground

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is ready to spend over £500million on turning Stamford Bridge into a 60,000 seater, making it one of the Premier League’s largest stadiums.

The capacity of Stamford Bridge is currently just 41,798, a figure which is quite small considering the size of the football club, and Abramovich wants to change that in the next few years.

Abramovich’s Legacy

It’s reported that the Russian billionaire is considering moving away from the club and allowing his son to take over, but before he goes, he wants to build his own legacy at the club and cement it by designing a brand new stadium.

According to reports, Abramovich wants to turn Stamford Bridge into a ‘cathedral of football’ by giving it an old-fashioned look rather than the modern day stadiums you see around today.

Chelsea Football Club will undergo a three-day consultation with fans of the club and locals as they present their plans to re-design the stadium, but before doing so, they want to get feedback from the supporters and also the people that live near the ground.

Daily Mail have posted some images of the blueprints and the potential designs of the new stadium, and it’s clear Abramovich wants to give Stamford Bridge a major face-lift.

Below are some of the images Daily Mail have posted regarding the new design and layout of The Bridge.

As you can see, the initial ideas are to make it very old-fashioned and give it a vintage look which Abramovich is looking for.

What are your thoughts on this then Chelsea fans?
