The Sky Blues remain top of the Premier League table

Raheem Sterling scored three of Manchester City’s five goals as they saw off AFC Bournemouth 5-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

The big summer signing opened the scoring at Eastlands after just seven minutes, when he tapped in a cross despite looking as though he was in an offside position.

It was 2-0 just minutes later; Bournemouth goalkeeper Adam Federici spilled a cross and the ball fell kindly to Wilfried Bony, who doubled the lead from close range.

The visitors were the next to score and thought they might have had a route back into the match, as Glenn Murray’s 20 yard strike found the back of the net to make it 2-1.

However, City ran riot to make it 4-1 before half-time, with Sterling scoring the two goals that also completed his first half treble (the first of his senior career).

The second half was tighter, but the home side still managed to extend their lead by one more goal.

The Ivory Coast international Bony, who was filling in for the injured Sergio Aguero, grabbed his second of the match and secured the three points that keep Manuel Pellegrini’s men top of the pile.
