Liverpool midfielder, Steven Gerrard, has criticsed Mario Balotelli for his actions surrounding the penalty in last night’s game.

The Reds were drawing 0-0 with Besiktas in the Europa League but eventually won a penalty which Jordan Henderson was set to take, until Balotelli stepped in and demanded the ball.

The Italian eventually took the penalty and scored it giving the hosts a 1-0 lead going to Turkey, but after the game, Gerrard admitted that the striker was disrespectful.

Gerrard said: “Henderson is the captain and Balotelli showed Jordan a bit of disrespect there.”

The midfielder was working for ITV as a pundit and he continued by saying well done for scoring, but it wasn’t good to see players arguing with each other.

“Rules are rules,” he added. “Credit to Mario, he’s scored, but it’s not nice to see when footballers are arguing. I think Jordan has handled the situation very well.”

As for the manager, Brendan Rodgers refused to comment on the situation after the game.
