Steven Gerrard admits he is worried about the overall atmosphere at Chelsea after their shocking poor start to the season

The Liverpool Legend has admitted that he’s worried about the overall atmosphere at Stamford Bridhe after their shock defeat in their opener against Burnley on Saturday.

Chelsea’s opening day saw them reduced to nine men and ended up going down in a surprise 3-2 loss at home in west London.

Chelsea are keen to defend their Premier League title this season as well as taking on the Champions League after missing out on a spot in Europe last season.

However, The West London club boss Antonio Conte is reported to be unhappy with the club’s summer transfer business so far.

And former Liverpool captain Gerrard feels that Conte is clearly not pleased with the way his squad have headed into the new Premier League season.

Speaking with Premier League Tonight over on BT Sport, Gerrard said: “It just seems to me that there is friction behind the scenes [at Chelsea].

“You wonder whether all of those decisions, loans and players moving on, have been decisions that have been taken out of Conte’s hands and that’s why he’s frustrated.

“We see a lot of emotion from him on the sidelines, which is great, but that’s the first time I’ve seen him really upset and emotional in a press conference.

“He’s usually calm and speaks really well.”
