Potters hoping to capitalize on defender’s lack of game time

Stoke City are reportedly ready to make use of Phil Jones’ lack of opportunities at Manchester United and try to sign the defender on loan.

Jones has not played for Man United since January 2nd and Jose Mourinho’s 3 matchday squads so far has indicated that Jones doesn’t have much of a future at Old Trafford at this moment in time.

New signing Eric Bailly has impressed so far with two Man of the Match performances, while Daley Blind has deputised solidly in the absence of Chris Smalling.

Jones signed for United from Blackburn Rovers for ÂŁ16m in 2011 and although he has won the Premier League and FA Cup during his time at Old Trafford, his five-year spell has been dogged with various injuries.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Stoke manager Mark Hughes was said to give an unclear answer when asked about Stoke’s reported interest – and they also say he asked a journalist whether Jones was in attendance at the Bet365 Stadium.

Hughes is desperate to sign defenders after conceding four goals to Manchester City on Saturday, highlighting his team’s clear problems at the back.
