Sturridge has been suffering with injury since he went down during international duty back in September, and just as he was on the cusp of a return he suffered another injury set-back.

Speaking to The Mirror, the Liverpool forward revealed he has some rather bizarre methods that he believes help him get fit such as spinach, curly kale, flax, chai seeds, steamed veg, meat fish and quinoa as well as putting some bee pollen into banana milkshakes.

Sturridge explained: “I started looking into health foods about five years ago and did a lot of research on the internet.

“It’s important that I eat the right things to give my muscles ammunition and I’m always ready to try something new if I think it will do me good.”

“When you’re a kid, sweets, chocolate and fast food are really appealing and they’re OK as a treat but it’s so important to lead a healthy lifestyle.

“Chocolate and burgers don’t do it for me – yoghurt and granola every time but it’s like eating dessert all the time so I have to watch myself.”
