The Unlikely Rise of Takumi Minamino
Takumi Minamino, a once-promising attacking midfielder at Liverpool, has come out as a surprise phenomenon in his current job at AS Monaco.
Minamino’s change into the world’s best right-back since leaving Anfield for a modest £15 million deal has astonished football fans.
The Japanese international’s rise from fighting for consistency under Jurgen Klopp to being regarded as the pinnacle of defensive prowess is nothing short of amazing.
Despite initial optimism over his move to Monaco in 2022, Minamino has done well in odd territory, showing his versatility and talent.
Minamino’s performance against Lens surpassed expectations, as he not only scored two important goals from his original offensive position but also easily shifted into a defensive role when needed.
His teammate, Aleksandr Golovin, was unambiguous in his enthusiasm, comparing Minamino to the famous Cafu.

The Russian said in a video uploaded by Monaco on X: “We now have the new Cafu. The best right back, not only in Ligue 1 but in the world at the moment.
“Give me the name of a right-back who can score two goals. Who?”
Minamino’s impact for Monaco this season goes far beyond his statistical prowess, as he has seven goals and five assists in just 17 games. His return exemplifies persistence and the capacity to redefine oneself in the face of hardship.
As accolades flow in for the once-maligned midfielder turned defensive wizard, one thing is certain: Takumi Minamino’s journey from Liverpool castaway to world-class right-back is one for the ages.
