The striker claims it would be an honour to play for the Reds

Alex Teixeira has today revealed his desperation to secure a move to Liverpool before the transfer window shuts.

The forward has been linked with the Reds over the past week or so and the club even made an official ÂŁ24.5m bid for the Shakhtar Donetsk man. However, the bid was rejected, with the Ukrainian club holding out for their valuatuon of ÂŁ38m.

It has left the 26-year old annoyed and frustrated at the fact he has yet to make the move and he himself claimed he was trying to be patient and wait for a deal to go through.

In an interview with Anfield HQ he said: “The team received one official offer from Liverpool. It was rejected.

“I don’t know why. It was a great offer. It is frustrating but the manager and club president decided against it so now I am just waiting. Trying to be patient.

“It (Liverpool) is a huge club so many great players have passed through there. It would be an honour to defend the Liverpool shirt. I know my agent is still attempting everything possible to help me get to Liverpool.

“I want to be there but that is up to the club president. Now I can only hope. I don’t know what else to say.”

The forward has been on fire for Donetsk so far this season and Liverpool remain keen to tie up a deal for him. However, if worst comes to worst, the Reds could leave the deal for now and return to try and sign the player in the summer.
