Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has revealed that he will miss three months worth of action after suffering ligament damage in the opening day defeat to Aston Villa.

The Englishman took to social networking site Twitter to reveal the extent of his injury and like first-feared, it is a serious injury and he will now miss important games for both club and country.

Chamberlain will miss Arsenal’s Champions League qualifiers against Fenerbache and will also miss key Premier League games including the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

As for England, the injury will see Ox miss both World Cup qualifiers that take place in September, which will be a blow to Roy Hodgson after he admitted that Chamberlain is in his plans for next year’s World Cup.

After the defeat to Villa, Arsene Wenger said that the injury was bad but played down long-term fears suggesting the midfielder would only miss six weeks of action, but unfortunately for the Frenchman, the scans revealed that there is more damage to the ligament than first though.

Chamberlain tweeted: ‘Gutted I’m injured so early in the season, but I’m going to be working hard to hopefully be back playing in 3 months. Thanks 4 all ur support.’

This injury leaves Arsenal with just two recognised wingers in the forms of Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski.
