Thomas Vermaelen leaves the door open for Manchester United move

The Belgian defender who has just returned from Brazil after his national side made it to the quarter finals of the World Cup. After losing his place in the Gunners’ starting eleven last season due to emergance of a strong defensive partnership between Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny, Vermaelen is open to a move to gain more first team opportunities.

Vermaelen’s who has refused to commit his future to Arsenal has been targetted by Manchester United as a defender that can fill the void left by the departures of Ferdinand and Vidic.

Vermaelen has been quoted as saying, ‘I really don’t know where I will play, Arsenal or elsewhere next season. All my attention went to the World Cup. I will see when I talk with Arsenal.

Louis Van Gaal who is currently on duty at the World Cup managing Holland, who are preparing for their Semi Final against Messi and co. tomorrow has already made his mark in the transer market. Having signed Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera and also apparently holding talks with Juventus over the transfer of Chillean midfield maestro Arturo Vidal.
