Time to prove our credentials, says Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes his side’s clash against Manchester United on Sunday will determine whether or not they are serious title contenders.

The Gunners are currently top of the Premier League, five points ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool, whilst United are down in eighth, a staggering eight points behind Wenger’s men already.

However, many pundits are suggesting Arsenal are yet to face any serious competitors, that was until last week when they eased past Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium, but it seems Wenger agrees with those suggestions and he has admitted that Sunday’s game will prove whether they are contenders or not.

“It is still one of the benchmarks of the season where you judge how strong you are,” Wenger said. “People analyse everything, your behaviour, and draw conclusions after the game.

“It is still one of the big games where you can gain confidence and credit for good behaviour.

“We had periods where we did very well at Old Trafford but recently we have not done so well and this is a good opportunity to show we have improved. We can win there and that is our target.”
