Barton received a 12-game ban after multiple incidents in a game between Manchester City and Queens Park Rangers; the midfielder was playing for QPR at the time. He has served the third longest player bans in English football. Barton is known to be a highly controversial figure and has been in jail before too for assault.
He traded handbags with Carlos Tevez, kneed Sergio Aguero and squared up with Mario Balotelli. Barton ultimately saw red for his offences.
