Tottenham Hotspur ace drops exit hint?

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has threatened to quit the North London club if they fail to achieve a Champions League spot this season.

Spurs, who lost 1-0 at Carrow Road yesterday, are currently fifth in the Premier League table, and are six points behind fourth-placed Liverpool, who edged past Swansea City in a seven-goal thriller at Anfield.

With just 11 games left, a Champions League spot is looking unlikely for Spurs, and manager Tim Sherwood has even admitted that a top-four finish is going to be tought now, which could see the end of Vertonghen’s career at White Hart Lane.

The Belgium centre-back has revealed in a recent interview that he wants to be playing in Europe’s top competition, and if he cannot do that at Tottenham, he is prepared to leave.

‘Those are always difficult questions. What I want is to play in the Champions League with Tottenham, so, hopefully, I will get there this year,’ he said.

‘I don’t complain about anything. Let’s see after the end of the season and after the World Cup.’

He added: ‘For me, the Norwich game was just not good enough and we need to raise up our game to compete with the other top teams.’
