Tottenham vs Sunderland: Match Reactions

Most of the talk in the build up to this match was about the announcement earlier in the day that Sherwood would not be Tottenham manager next season. But it did not effect his team in the slightest.

They did get off to a shaky start, however, as Lee Cattermole took advantage of a poor pass from Chiriches to score a beautifully placed goal into an almost empty net from 30 yards.

But Spurs responded strongly and were level within 11 minutes later as Adebayor connected with Eriksen’s cross to score an easy chance.

It was in the 2nd half in which Tottenham really asserted their dominance as they added 4 goals to leave Sunderland in deep trouble in the relegation zone. Goals from Harry Kane (59′), Eriksen (78′), Adebayor (86′) and Sigurdsson (90′) cemented the victory for Tottenham, who are now 5 points off 4th placed Arsenal.

Following his side’s convincing victory, Tim Sherwood dismissed all the talk about his future stating: “My future? I can’t comment on anything on my employment, you will have to ask my employer about that.

“As far as I’m concerned, I set the team out well tonight, we outplayed Sunderland. We knew it would be a tough game, because they have got their threats, and we’ve done the job well tonight. On to the next.

“We’ve got 5 games left and we think we can win all 5 games. We don’t know where that might take us.

“All I was focused on was winning the game tonight, preparing the boys correctly. You’ve just got to be professional.

“It’s been an opportunity to manage this great club and I’m relishing it. My record has been very good. In the Premier League, any manager who has been here, I think my win percentage is higher than any of them.”

The result leaves Tottenham with an outside chance of snatching 4th place. The question now is: Will Sherwood keep his job if Spurs reach the Champions League for next season?
