Wages set to be slashed at Old Trafford
Manchester United stars will be facing a 20% pay-cut if they fail to make Champions League this season.
If their neighbors Manchester City get a point away at Swansea tomorrow, City will beat United to a top 4 finish, and United will be playing in the Europa League next season.
And it means that Old Trafford players will feel it in the pocket.
The club yesterday claimed they would only lose ÂŁ10m if they qualified for the Europa League as opposed to the Champions League.
And that’s because players’ wages are significantly reduced under terms in their contracts.
In it he failed to mention Louis van Gaal, preferring instead to mention the success of United’s young players.
The United executive vice-chairman said: “This Premier League season has demonstrated once again why this league is the most compelling competition for sports fans all over the world.
“In the last two seasons alone, some 15 players from our under-21s squad have appeared 130 times in our first team.
“Marcus Rashford made an immediate impact, scoring goals on his debut in Europe and then two more on his Premier League debut against Arsenal.
“Three of our regular first-team players – Rashford, (Jesse) Lingard, (Cameron) Borthwick-Jackson – are locally-born academy players, who have been with the club since they were eight years old.”
