Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has said that he is not sure about his future after his team’s 4-0 drubbing against Liverpool. The Blaugrana blew a three-goal lead against Liverpool to crash out of the Champions League. This was a repeat of last season’s quarter-final tie against Roma. Barca won the first leg 4-1 before losing 3-0 and being out on away goals.
Speaking after the defeat, Valverde said, “How does it affect my future? I do not know, the truth is that I did not have time to think about many things, but the coach has to take responsibility.”
Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu also refused to discuss about Valverde’s future at the club. Bartomeu said, “”There will be time to reflect and explain. There is a Copa del Rey to play in three weeks.
Last year, in Rome, the same thing happened, difficult to explain. We will do it internally. Now, it’s time to play the Copa del Rey, lift the mood and apologise to all fans of Barca.”
Valverde has led Barcelona to successive La Liga titles since taking over from Luis Enrique and will hope to guide them to successive Copa del Rey titles when Barcelona play Valencia in the final on the 25th. Before that, Barcelona have two La Liga games to play against Getafe and Eibar.
