Van Gaal: Manchester United far behind Chelsea

Louis Van Gaal has admitted that Manchester United are way behind Chelsea.

United spent around ÂŁ150 million or so in the summer, however have somewhat stuttered at the start of this current season.

Despite landing the likes of Luke Shaw, Angel Di Maria, Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera and Radamel Falcao, the Red Devils currently languish behind table toppers Chelsea.

A win away at West Bromwich Albion this evening will see United over-take West Ham in fourth spot.

But Van Gaal revealed that he believes Chelsea are in a much stronger position, and that his Manchester United squad are not currently title contenders.

“You have your hopes but I do think there are stronger teams in the world now,” he said.

“We have to make a team and that’s why I have a period of three years. I hope we can fulfil the dream we have. Chelsea has already a lot of time.

“When you have three months with 10 players injured you cannot have a big progression. You are always playing with a different team.

“I don’t think that 11 points out of seven games is better than I expected.

“I think it is good enough to be in fourth place and nothing more.”
