Louis Van Gaal is set to move for AC Milan centre back Philippe Mexes, according to The Metro.
Reports in the Italian media source Corriere Dello Sport suggest that Van Gaal view’s Mexes as an alternative to Mehdi Benatia, with United’s deal for the Roma fullback stalling.
United have also received competition from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich for the Moroccan defender, who impressed for Roma in Serie A last season.
Therefore, Van Gaal will turn to 32 year old Mexes, who is entering the final year of his current deal at the San Siro.
