Spaniard continues to be frozen out at Old Trafford

Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes has been told to train on his own and away from the first-team, according to reports.

The Spaniard fell out with Louis van Gaal during pre-season after the veteran refused to play for the U21 team, and during a press conference on their tour of America, Van Gaal revealed that the former-Barcelona star wouldn’t play for the club again.

Valdes was set to join Super Lig outfit Besiktas, but the proposed deal fell through at the last minute, leaving the veteran stranded at Old Trafford.

The 33-year-old wasn’t given a squad number by Van Gaal and wasn’t offered a club suit to wear on match-days, all-but ending his short career at the club.

Shock Links to Rivals

Since being frozen out, Valdes has been linked with shock moves to Chelsea and Liverpool, both on the look-out for ‘keepers.

Chelsea need someone to come in for backup to Asmir Begovic whilst Thibaut Courtois recovers from knee surgery, and Liverpool want a genuine competitor for Simon Mignolet‘s number-one jersey.

Jose Mourinho and Brendan Rodgers don’t see Jamal Blackman and Adam Bogdan as suitable back-up options.

According to the reports, Van Gaal has told Valdes he is not allowed to show his face at the Carrington training ground, unless none of the first-team players are there.

Valdes has been training with the U21, U18 and academy goalkeeping coaches.
