Voller claims money runs modern football

Rudi Voller, Sporting Director for Bayer Leverkusen, claims that their upcoming Champions League opponents Paris Saint Germain, are proving that “money scores goals”.

The French giants were taken over in 2011 by Qatari investors and have since spent an impressive sum of money to land them the Ligue 1 title. The Parc des Princes have welcomed many big names since then such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva and Edinson Cavani and are currently on track to retain the league title.

While Voller has admitted he has no issue with the hefty spending from the Parisiens in order to win titles, he has stated the importance that money has in the modern day game.

The ex-Germany international told reporters “I do not have a problem with that,

“Whether the money comes from one company or from three like at Bayern [Munich], it does not matter at all.

“The main thing is, wages are paid in time and, from that point of view, Paris are making a serious impression on the game.

“In the end, money does score goals. You can see it at PSG and at Bayern. PSG are one of Europe’s five best teams and they’re among the favourites to win the Champions League, too.”
