Manchester United striker out of West Ham game and could miss Champions League tie

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed that Wayne Rooney is out for the game against West Ham United tomorrow afternoon.

The striker suffered an ankle injury during last week’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City, and Van Gaal has revealed the injury is worse than first-feared.

Rooney was expected to make his 500th appearance for United at Old Trafford against the Hammers, but Van Gaal has now confirmed he will have to wait for that achievement.

Injury Blow to Rooney

Van Gaal said: “It’s more heavy than we thought and a nasty injury. His ankle is not good enough and he has to recover that ankle with a lot of strength. He needs more time.”

When asked about his availability for the Wolfsburg game, Van Gaal admitted he’s also a doubt for that game.

He added: “Yes, I think so.”
