We can win in Germany again, says Mertesacker

Premier League side Arsenal will have another tough job in order to advance to the Quarter Finals of the Champions League as they will have to overturn a 2-0 defecit in Germany after they lost to Bayern Munich last night at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners had the chance to go 1-0 up but Mesut Ozil saw his tame penalty saved and after that, it was all Munich, who eliminated The Gunners at this stage last season before going on to win the competition.

Wojciech Szczesny was then sent off and after that, it was only going to end one way and after Toni Kroos finally broke the deadlock, Munich took full control.

Eventually the game ended 2-0 to the champions, but after the game, Per Mertesacker refused to give up and is confident that the side can go to Germany and win 2-0, just like they did last year.

“It’s a little blow but when you look back at last year we lost here 3-1, it was a bit worse then than now, so we are looking forward to Munich and why can we not repeat that from last year,” he told Sky Sports.

“Mentally we are stronger than last year.”

“I think we started really well, we would have deserved one goal at least,” he added.

“There are a lot of ifs and buts, we have to take the result, it’s a bit of blow for us but we have to remind ourselves of last year when we went to Munich.”
