With Nemanja Vidic leaving Manchester United in the Summer months, David Moyes now has a new task at hand, and that is to find a new club captain.
The Serbian will depart Old Trafford after an eight year spell at United, in a highly successful spell ever since signing in 2006.
And with United’s season slipping away, Moyes must choose carefully.
Wayne Rooney is one of the candidates expected to take up the armband, as he is set to sign a lucrative £300,000 a week contract extention at Old Trafford, puttuing to bed any further speculation surrounding his club future.
David De Gea, Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Darren Fletcher have also been in contention for the club captaincy.
Robin Van Persie had also been rumoured to take up the armband, but speculation surrounding his future over recent weeks has cast that in some doubt.
Van Persie is reportedly unhappy at Old Trafford, and could be ready for a sensational move back to Arsenal.
Wenger met with Van Persie and his agents last week, in what would be an amazing transfer, if the 30 year old does move.
