Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has revealed why he decided to sign Danny Welbeck from Manchester United on transfer deadline day.

The Gunners spent ÂŁ16million on the Englishman and he has so far re-paid that with seven goals, including an impressive hat-trick in the Champions League against Galatasaray.

Welbeck left United after the arrival of Radamel Falcao on a season-long loan, and Wenger admitted that the striker’s versatility was key to the deal being made.

Since arriving, Welbeck has been used all across the front-three, and that is something Wenger admires.

“One of the reasons I bought him (Welbeck) is that he can play central striker and wide,” Wenger said.

“I believe he’s doing extremely well and is contributing to the team very well. He can play central striker like he did for a long time but the most natural centre forward we have is Giroud.

“All the strikers we have can play in different positions. The only one who can only play centre forward is Giroud, so when Giroud plays the others have to move out wide.”
