Moyes starts clearout!

0

Manchester United misfit Anderson is on the verge of joining Italian club Fiorentina to herald the start of a big clearout by David Moyes at Old Trafford.

The United manager wants to get rid of up to a dozen of his first-team squad before the start of next season and under-performing wingers Nani and Wilfried Zaha are set to follow Anderson out of the club in January.

Nani is due to go out on loan to Sporting Lisbon in his native Portugal once he has recovered from injury and Zaha is looking forward to a stint at Cardiff City under former United great Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Alex Buttner, Shinji Kagawa, Javier Hernandez, Patrice Evra, Antonio Valencia and Anders Lindegaard are due to leave in the summer and Moyes, who saw his side end a three-game losing streak with last night’s 2-0 win over Swansea, will also have big decisions to make about star strikers Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.

Anderson, 25, has been a major disappointment since being signed by Sir Alex Ferguson for £17million in 2007.

There have been jibes about the Brazil midfielder’s weight and conditioning this season; Moyes has not used the midfielder in the Premier League since he played in the home defeat against Newcastle United on December 7.

Fiorentina, who have also been linked with a summer move for United club captain Vidic, will not reveal how much they will pay for Anderson but it is unlikely to be more than half the fee United forked out for him.

Moyes has also lost patience with Nani, who was booed by the Old Trafford crowd when he was substituted during a game against Stoke City in October.

Although the 27-year-old is capable of winning games with his skill, those days are becoming rare and a return to Portugal is seen as best for all concerned as he prepares for the summer World Cup

Nani has been ruled out for the last three weeks with a hamstring injury and faces a race against time to be fit before the end of the January transfer window, though Sporting may be happy to take him anyway.

Zaha, 21, has become increasingly frustrated by his lack of opportunities under Moyes and has not responded well to the manager’s authoritarian style.

He is ready to move to Cardiff on loan and is waiting for the go-ahead from United’s manager.
Moyes is a good friend of Malky Mackay, but he was sacked by Cardiff last month.
Moyes signalled his impatience with certain United players when he confirmed in December there would be departures. ‘I’ve tried to make sure I’ve given an opportunity to everybody. I think that we’re getting to a situation where there are a few who could go if we got the right offer for them,’ he said.

Freeing up squad places will allow Moyes to sign his own players, although the major recruitment will come in the summer.

Moyes has looked at Daniele de Rossi, Samir Khedira, Ilkay Gundogan and Cesc Fabregas to supplement his below-par midfield and is also interested in a left-back, with Leighton Baines and Luke Shaw heavily linked.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain can be the new Steven Gerrard

0

The 20-year-old is set to make his first appearance – on the bench – against Aston Villa tomorrow since getting injured on the opening day of the season.

His return prompted Arsenal boss Wenger to insist: “Alex’s future will be in central midfield – or even deeper. He has good quality to distribute and penetrate individually and has similar qualities to Steven Gerrard.”

“He will be in Roy Hodgson’s plans because he can play central and wide and England don’t have too many like that.”

Wenger revealed that his £12million youngster had come back well from his injury.

“He has commonsense and took it well,” said Wenger.

“It took him longer than expected but he has worked hard and at least he escaped surgery, which is important at his age,” he added.

Wenger, a well chronicled critic of the January transfer window, claimed again that the need will have to be extreme to force him to splash the cash on any new players this month.

He added: “If something special comes up and a player is available you would do it, but overall this transfer window should not exist.

“It is always a rush hour and every press conference is about who you might buy and not the next game.

“To find players to strengthen a club like ours at this time is nearly impossible. It is not about the money just the potential.”

Arsenal ready to move for Schalke’s Julian Draxler

0

They will try again this month but it’s more likely it will happen in the summer.

Jan Aage Fjortoft, the man who first broke news of Mesut Ozil’s move to Arsenal via his Twitter account, believes the deal will be done.

The Norwegian, who played for Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and Swindon, is now a TV commentator in Germany, where he is still hero-worshipped for his goals at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Fjortoft claims Draxler was impressed during a recent visit to the Arsenal training complex.

Draxler is a versatile attacker and is certain to be part of Germany’s World Cup squad.

However, Arsenal have been handed a blow in their bid to lure Roma striker Mattia Destro, 22.

Defiant Roma chiefs are refusing to open talks about a possible switch even though Destro is behind Francesco Totti and former Arsenal attacker Gervinho in the pecking order.

Manchester City want Paul Pogba….

0

Manchester City are keen to sign Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, and may even offer them striker Stevan Jovetic as part of the deal, despite him only joining the club six months ago.

The Italian side have reportedly enquired about signing Jovetic on loan until the end of the season, but City have rejected their enquiry and have told them that they want Pogba in return for their injury-hit striker.

The Montenegro international has barely featured since signing from Fiorentina in the Summer due to numerous injures, and Manuel Pellegrini may try and usher him out of the club, whilst bringing in an up-and-coming midfielder.

Pogba, 20, has become one of Europe’s hottest midfielders in recent seasons after he’s put in some sublime performances for Juve in the Serie A.

It is thought that the Frenchman is worth around £30million, but that is a price that City are willing to pay in order to capture their target, and as Pogba is a former-Manchester United flop, it would be another harmful blow to their fierce local rivals.

Manchester United set to loan Real Madrid defender

0

Manchester United manager David Moyes is holding talks with La Liga side Real Madrid regarding a possible loan move for full-back Fabio Coentrao.

According to reports, Coentrao’s agent Jorge Mendes, is desperate to secure a loan-move for his client so that he can play as much first-team football as possible from now up until the World Cup in Brazil.

United were keen on signing the Portuguese star in the Summer, but a loan-move collapsed on transfer deadline day.

However, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has reapetedly stated that none of his playes will be leaving the Bernabeu this month, and his goal to keep everyone at the club may hault any potential transfer for Moyes and Coentrao.

Manchester City set to bid £30,000,000 for defender

0

Manchester City are ready to bid up to £30million in order to sign Southampton starlet Luke Shaw this month, according to reports.

The young Englishman has been attracting a lot of attention from big clubs in the Premier League, with Manchester United, City and also Chelsea are interested in the 18-year-old.

City officials have already contacted Saints chairman Nicolas Cortese, and have told him that they will pay much more than their two rivals.

Shaw, who has been superb for Southampton since arriving in the Premier League, is seen as the long-term replacement for Ashley Cole on the England stage, and because of this, City are ready to beat the transfer record for a full-back, which is currently £29.5million, and that was when Dani Alves joined FC Barcelona.

Despite City’s interest, both Shaw and Southampton have made it clear that they don’t want to do a deal this month, but a move away in the Summer could be on the cards.

Chelsea ready to splash £21,000,000 on midfielder

0

Chelsea are preparing a £21million bid for Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic, despite the Serbian only leaving Stamford Bridge in 2011.

The 25-year-old was part of the deal that saw Brazilian defender David Luiz join the West London club, but it now appears that Jose Mourinho wants to bring him back to the club in order to add strength to his midfield.

According to reports, Matic is top on Mourinho’s list, but Inter Milan’s Freddie Guarin is also a potential candidate, but in the past week, he has revealed that he is happy to stay in Italy.

Despite his poor first-stint in the Premier League, it is believed that Matic does want to make the return to England and also wants to return to Chelsea, but Benfica are wanting more than the £21million The Blues are ready to spend on the midfielder.

David Moyes expects United improvement

0

Manchester United manager David Moyes believes there is a lot more to come from his side after they ended a three-game losing streak by seeing off Swansea City in the Premier League.

Goals from Antonio Valencia and Danny Welbeck gave United all three points at Old Trafford, and after three defeats on the trott, the win was needed.

With both Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney ruled out injured, it was set to be another tricky game for Moyes and his side, but despite having far less possession, it was the hosts that came away with all the points.

After the game, Moyes faced the media and stated that there is more to come from his Manchester United side.

“I hope a long way better is to come. I would like to think it would improve an awful lot,” Moyes said.

“But you have to start somewhere and I think today was more like it.”

Manchester City and West Ham agree fee from Lescott.

0

Manchester City have agreed a fee with West Ham United over the sale of central defender Joleon Lescott.

The defender has six months left on his current deal at the Etihad stadium, and has struggled to gain a first team spot at City, but he had recently formed a superb partnership with Vincent Kompany.

However, there may be a stumbling block to the move, with City reluctant to sell defender until after January 20th, putting the Hammers in a catch 22 situation.

Lescott wants to secure regular first-team football as he battles for a place in England’s squad for the World Cup in Brazil.

West Ham are believed to have agreed a deal with City a week ago matching Lescott’s wages of £90,000 a week for the rest of this campaign and then agreeing to pay the central defender £70,000 a week for another three years even if they are relegated.

It is still unclear weather the 31 year old Birmingham born defender wants to be involved in a relegation battle with the Hammers, as West Ham have struggled ffor form this season.

West Ham’s commitment of more than £12 million in wages for Lescott is brave given the very real prospect the club could go down this season.

The Hammers are down to the bare bones defence wise, with James Collins and Ravzan Rat both out with injuries.

Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have also been interested in the central defender, however, MLS clubs are also interested in the veteran.

Wenger: Podolski Can Make Big Impact

0

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is confident fit-again German forward Lukas Podolski can have a big impact as the Gunners look to last the distance in the Barclays Premier title race.

With Theo Walcott sidelined for the rest of the season and out of the World Cup after suffering a serious knee injury in the closing stages of the FA Cup win over Tottenham last weekend, Arsenal are in need of some attacking options to support lead frontman Olivier Giroud.

Podolski marked his return from four months out with a torn hamstring to come off the bench and score in the 3-1 win at West Ham on Boxing Day.

Although the 28-year-old was then somewhat subdued when handed a start in a central attacking role for the New Year’s Day game against Cardiff, Wenger is in no doubt of what Podolski can bring to the side when firing on all cylinders.

“Podolski has been out for four months and after being available, it doesn’t mean you are competitive in the Premier League – it takes some time to come back,” said Wenger, whose side head to Aston Villa on Monday night looking to sustain their position at the top of the table.

“He is working hard. This week he looked sharper in training, so he is getting close now to being completely fit again.

“If there is one (player) you want to see in front of the goal in a shooting position, it is him because Podolski is certainly one of the best finishers I have ever seen.

“He can play that central role when he is completely fit and is one of the potential assets we have there.

“When he is physically ready, he will of course help us.”

West Ham win eases pressure on Allardyce

0

Carlton Cole was on hand to convert from close range from Matt Jarvis’ excellent pass, before James Tomkins was sent off in the second half.

But Mark Noble sealed the win in stoppage time, and with Andy Carroll making a first appearance of the season as a substitute this was a good day for Allardyce with co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan in attendance.

Fraizer Campbell, Craig Noone and Mark Hudson failed to convert the best chances for the hosts, who replace West Ham in the bottom three, and this will have outlined to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the task he will face in keeping the Bluebirds up.

Allardyce’s position has been under severe scrutiny in the wake of heavy cup defeats against Nottingham Forest and Manchester City, and the Hammers lying 19th the table.

The mood at Cardiff may have been lifted by Solskjaer’s arrival but with the Bluebirds a point and a place above the drop zone it was little surprise there was such a nervy start.

Cardiff survived an early scare when West Ham hit the post inside three minutes. Stewart Downing’s cross missed everyone and cannoned out of the far post, where Tomkins’ follow-up was smothered by David Marshall.

Tomkins’ return from injury had provided a timely boost for Allardyce who is without the likes of Winston Reid and James Collins.

But he lost another defender in the eighth minute when Guy Demel went down. Campbell had just failed to connect with Peter Odemwingie’s cross and when the ball was quickly put back into the box the striker collided with Demel and Roger Johnson.

Johnson’s elbow appeared to strike Demel and the Ivorian required lengthy treatment before being stretchered off with a suspected broken elbow and facial injuries.

The long disruption ensured there was little flow on the resumption until George McCartney, on for Demel, blocked superbly from Craig Noone.

Cardiff looked the more likely to score and they thought they had in the 32nd minute.

Kim Bo-kyung’s shot deflected off Johnson, struck the bar and appeared to cross the line as it came down. No goal was given and Campbell gave away a foul as he bundled Adrian and the ball over the line.

But replays showed the Goal Decision System had been correct, with the ball landing on the line.

Noone was again denied, this time by Adrian, before the visitors opened the scoring.

Matt Taylor picked out Jarvis, and the winger’s weighted pass gave Cole an easy tap in.

That prompted Solskjaer to hand fit-again Craig Bellamy a first appearance since November 9 in place of Odemwingie.

It nearly paid immediate dividends as the veteran’s free-kick found an unmarked Hudson, who headed over.

McCartney survived penalty shouts for handball and what looked like a clear push on Campbell, before the striker worked Adrian from Bellamy’s pull-back.

It was all Cardiff and West Ham were pegged further back when Tomkins saw red as he picked up a second booking for a foul on Campbell after earlier being cautioned needlessly for dissent.

But West Ham survived and Noble finished a sweeping break from Carroll’s pass to secure the spoils.

Southampton v West Brom Manager reactions

0

The England midfielder shot under Ben Foster after a clever pass from substitute Gaston Ramirez.

Rickie Lambert and Lallana had shots saved in the first half, before Jay Rodriguez fired wide after the break.

West Brom, with new head coach Pepe Mel in the stands, were denied late on when Artur Boruc saved from Shane Long.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino:

“I think the evolution as of late has been good, I think the team has progressed a lot.

“I think the team as of late has been playing better, but it has been lacking defensive solidity.

“Today we recovered that, we recovered that winning spirit, we recovered that solidity at the back.”

West Brom caretaker manager Keith Downing:

“I think Pepe Mel would have seen us an organised side. Without the ball we restricted Southampton to not many opportunities, not clear-cut opportunities anyway.

“We are all disappointed about what we did with the ball and credit to the opposition, they don’t give you time and quickly press you as soon as they lose it.

“I think he will work on us in terms of possession and creativity, but I thought there was commitment in terms of the team defensively.”
