BREAKING NEWS: Tottenham sign Christian Eriksen

0

Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen.

The club have been very busy this summer, smashing their transfer record fee on two occasions and the Dane becomes yet another big-name signing for Andre Villas-Boas’ side.

Spurs broke the news on their official Twitter feed on Friday evening, but it is yet understood whether or not he will be in the team for Sunday’s North London derby at the Emirates Stadium.

Eriksen was wanted by Liverpool, but nothing formal came from the Merseyside team and they will now have to look elsewhere after he secured his move to White Hart Lane.

It hasn’t been announced how much they have paid, but it is thought to be under ÂŁ10million.

Bacary Sagna loves North London derbies

0

Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has revealed that he loves playing in North London derbies and admits that the games are magical.

The Emirates Stadium will play host to the first North London derby of the season come Sunday as Tottenham Hotspur go up against their fiercest-rivals Arsenal looking for some revenge after the last two games played at the 60,000-seater.

For the last two seasons, Spurs have lost 5-2 away to The Gunners and have finished both games with 10 men, but after a summer filled with big-money spent, they will be feeling more confident this time around.

Despite the mega-spending of Tottenham, Sagna is confident that it will be Arsenal who get the three points come Sunday evening.

“Of course he was really important for their team but they have many other players,” the right back said. “Most of them play for their national teams and we know it is not going to be easy but at the same time we believe it is down to us to play our football.

“As I have said before, we can beat anyone. We have very talented players who are young and motivated.

“This game is one of the highlights of the season because it is a derby – we know how important it is for the fans, the club and the players to win it. The atmosphere is just magic and it will be even more magic if we win on Sunday.”

Hughton Believes Ruddy Can Push Hart

0

Norwich City manager Chris Hughton believes that goalkeeper John Ruddy is more than ready to push England’s number one Joe Hart with the World Cup fast approaching.

Ruddy was again named in Roy Hodgson’s squad for the matches against Moldova and Ukraine in the coming weeks alongside current number one Joe Hart and uncapped Celtic keeper Fraser Forster.

Hughton believes that although Ruddy missed the vast amount of last season due to a thigh injury he is in fine form to pile the pressure on under fire keeper Joe Hart.

‘Any player that goes on international duty is there on merit and to challenge and to play. If I look at the progress he (Ruddy) has made over the last few seasons he has the capabilities to really push for a place.’

‘It’s early in the season but if I look at the reaction from a disappointing season for him last season, at least the last two thirds of the season with the injury, he has made a full recovery from that and at the moment is back to where he was before the injury.’

‘I think he has done well and has put himself in position to put pressure on the position. And that’s how it should be. Anyone who is involved in an international squad should be there on merit and feel they can put real competition on that position.’

‘He’s a big personality, a big frame, and his performances for us over the last few seasons have very much warranted him being in that international squad.’

Chelsea made several bids for John Ruddy this summer but were rebuffed by the Canaries who are clearly not willing to sell one of their prize assets. Norwich face Southampton at Carrow Road on Saturday and will be looking for their first win of the season after a draw against Everton and a loss away at Hull.

Wenger offered ’50 players’ a day

0

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that he is offeremed ‘more than 50 players’ every single day but continutes to state he will not panic buy as the deadline day draws to a close.

Arsenal made their second signing of the transfer window yesterday by bringing back Mathieu Flamini on a free transfer following his release from AC Milan this summer. Alongside Flamini, Arsenal signed Yaya Sanogo but they remain the only new faces at the Emirates.

Wenger has stated in a recent press conference ‘we will not panic buy, that is for sure. You can believe me – it is not my strength to panic. I can give you my phone and you will see I have more than 50 players offered to me a day. I’m completely happy with what we do and how we do things. I don’t share the criticisms that are made of my team.’

Wenger has responded to criticism because of close rivals Tottenham’s success in the transfer window, signing several top class players including the signature of Erik Lamela today for ÂŁ30 million. Wenger said ahead of the North London derby on Sunday ‘there is a technical risk when you buy more than three players because you unbalance a bit the stability of your squad.’

‘I know all the players they bought, but we will see how well they integrate. It’s difficult to predict that. It can click fantastically well but there is a little risk.’

OFFICIAL: Boateng to Schalke

0

Kevin Prince-Boateng moves to Schalke 04 as AC Milan confirms on their official homepage.

“I am very happy to be home in Germany, in the best league in the world.” Boateng said.

A 4-year deal has been agreed as Schalke general manager Horst Heldt confirms. Heldt also said it was not hard to convince him to play in the Bundesliga, the hard part was convincing Milan to sell him.

Boateng scored twice in Milan’s Champions League qualifier against PSV on Wednesday and as it is only a qualifier, he remains eligible to play for Schalke in their upcoming group-stage.

Arsene Wenger didn’t plan on re-signing Flamini

0

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he had no intentions of re-signing Mathieu Flamini at the beginning of the summer, but insisted that the player’s attitude and fitness changed his mind.

The former-Arsenal midfielder was training with the club for the summer in order to regain first-team fitness after his contract expired at Italian side AC Milan, who he joined after he left The Gunners.

At the beginning of the summer, Wenger confirmed that the Frenchman was just training with the club and there was no chance of a transfer, but after weeks of training with the first-team, he soon changed his mind and he has now revealed why he did choose to sign the 29-year-old.

“At the start I didn’t want to sign him – I am completely honest about it,” the manager said. “I didn’t envisage doing it. Circumstances and his attitude convinced me to do it.

“I didn’t expect him to be in that mental state and in that physical shape. Our job has a great quality – it is a good teacher of humility. So you always have to be ready to change your mind, and he changed my mind.

“The ambition is there and he is hugely fit. He came here for fitness and we tested him quite well. He worked very hard and he knows how we want to play.

“He is quite versatile. He can play in different positions and when I saw what kind of mental state and physical shape he was in, it was a no brainer.”

Goalkeeper is back to his best, insists Wenger

0

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes his number-one goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has re-found his best form.

The Gunners boss dropped the Polish international at the end of last season and claimed it was because he was mentally unfit after a tough and challenging season, but Wenger has quickly made him the number-one again for this season.

Despite conceding four goals in two games in the Premier League, Szczesny kept two impressive clean-sheets against Fenerbache in the Champions League qualifier and the shot-stopper made numerous saves in the second leg at the Emirates Stadium.

Wenger was talking to the club’s official website and he has admitted that the Pole is back to his best and over the problems of last season.

“He is over the problems he had last season,” the boss said. “He had a dip in form, but has come back at the end of the season with good form and a good run, overall for me he is back to his best.

“We forget he is a boy who is only in his third season in the Premier League. He is only 23, for a goalkeeper that is very young.

“He was third then last season fourth in the Premier League, for such a young goalkeeper, that is not a bad achievement.

“I am sure you will see a great season from Szczesny, and I rate Fabianski very highly, which is why I think we have two very good goalkeepers.”

Manchester United see another bid rejected

0

Manchester United have seen yet another bid for a midfielder rejected this summer and this time, it is for Athletic Bilbao’s Ander Herrera.

New United boss David Moyes hasn’t had a great summer transfer-wise so far seeing bids for Thiago Alcantara, Cesc Fabregas, Leighton Baines, Marouane Fellaini and now Herrera all get rejected as he hunts for a big-name in his first season as United boss.

The English champions offered the Spanish side ÂŁ25million for the midfielder, but the bid was soon rejected as the club do not want to negotiate at all.

Jose Urrutia, who is Bilbao’s president, wrote the following on Twitter: ‘There is an offer for Ander Herrera. We received it yesterday and we have informed that we will not negotiate for our players.

‘Our club is different. We create an emotional bond. Our objective is not to make money.

‘For that a player should leave he needs to state his intentions to leave the club and pay the buyout clause.’

However, some positive news for United, is that in his contract, he has a release clause of ÂŁ30million, meaning if they match that amount, the club will have to sell him, but it is not known whether or not United are prepared to pay the extra ÂŁ5million.

Arsene Wenger excited for difficult Champions League group

0

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that his side have a difficult Champions League group ahead of them, but he also believes it is a very exciting opportunity for the club.

Wenger looked on as he saw his side be drawn with French side Marseille, last year’s runners-up Borussia Dortmund and Rafael Benitez’s Napoli and the group has already been labelled as the group of death.

The Gunners had Marseille and Dortmund in their group a couple of years ago, which they managed to get through, but the teams are a lot different this time around.

Napoli played Arsenal in the summer during the Emirates Cup and the game on that ocassion finished 2-2 and Wenger knows how difficult the group will be.

“It’s difficult but exciting as well because it’s a group of a very good level,” the manager said. “We have played Dortmund two years ago. We did well against them and Napoli did well last year.

“Marseille we played two years ago as well. It’s a similar group to what we knew two years ago.

“Every game will be of huge importance because it could be down to a point or goal difference in the end.”

Arsenal manager believes Bendtner could still have Emirates future

0

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that wantaway striker Nicklas Bendtner could still have a future at the club, despite saying that he will never put on an Arsenal shirt again.

The Dane has been sent out on loan for the past two seasons, to Sunderland and then to Juventus, failing to impress for both sides and during those stints, he made a comment saying that he will never play for Wenger’s side again.

However, after yet another summer of not being able to get a move to any other club, Bendtner may have to stay at the Emirates Stadium yet again.

The positive news for the striker is that Wenger is prepared to forgive and forget and has insisted that if he works hard, he will be used.

‘The chance for him to leave now is very small and if he comes back well and gets fit, I will use him,’ said Wenger on the Denmark international.

Despite not capturing anyone of note yet this transfer window, Wenger insists that the club won’t panic buy.

‘We will not panic buy, that is for sure. You can believe me. It is not my strength to panic.

‘I can give you my phone and you will see I have more than 50 players offered to me a day.

‘I’m completely happy with what we do and how we do things. I don’t share the criticisms that are made of my (transfer) team.’

Wenger Splashing The Cash

0

Arsene Wenger is reportedly willing to spend all of his ÂŁ70,000,000 Transfer Budget on Real Madrid Trio as he fights to continue his 16 year reign at Arsenal FC.

Arsenal have reached the Champions League Group Stages every year since being under Wenger’s watchful eye. And beyond that finished above their North London Rivals Tottenham Hotspurs. Tottenham have been snapping up players left, right and center to try and strengthen their chances of finishing above Arsenal and achieve their Ultimate Champions League target which they haven’t managed since the 2010/2011 season.

With signings such as Paulinho and Roberto Soldado, Spurs have massively enhanced their attacking play. Wenger has maintained his secretive personality on the matter but has said there is transfer business to do-much to the delight of the Arsenal fans.

However, Di Maria, Benzema and Ozil have said they want to stay with the Spanish giants but the world record signing Gareth Bale worth ÂŁ86,000,000 will seriously jeopardise their places in the starting XI or even reaching the team.

Arsenal are in need of a solid winger as Lukas Podolski has been ruled out for at least 2 months following his hamstring injury suffered in Tuesday night’s game against Fenerbahce at the Emirates. A lot of Arsenal fans have described their current striker Olivier Giroud’s as “slow, lazy and unwilling’ although he is Arsenal’s EPL top scorer.

Arsene Wenger said in an interview after the Arsenal’s 3-1 win at Craven Cottage on Saturday “I will not panic buy, that is for sure, Arsenal are active in the transfer market and players will be signed.”

Wenger wants good behaviour in Sunday’s derby

0

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that good behaviour is vital in a North London derby and the Frenchman believes having 11-men on the pitch at all times is vital.

The Gunners have already have a red card this season with Laurent Koscielny being sent off against Aston Villa on the opening day of the season, while Emmanuel Adebayor and Scott Parker have both seen red at the Emirates Stadium in a North London derby, both games ending 5-2 to the hosts.

Sunday’s game is Arsenal’s second London derby of the season as they played Fulham last weekend picking up a 3-1 victory and with confidence high, Wenger wants the momentum to continue, starting with three points on Sunday, but he is adamant that keeping 11-players on the pitch is crucial.

“The game lasts 90 minutes and the behaviour of the players has to be focused and normal for 90 minutes,” said Wenger at his pre-match press conference.

“It is very difficult to predict what would have happened if Adebayor had stayed on. That [red cards] is part of the game.

“We played against Aston Villa with 10 men, [Koscielny] didn’t deserve to be sent off and nobody cared about it, nobody asked what would have happened if Koscielny had stayed on. Certainly we would not have lost the game. But that is one of the decisions of the referee.”
