Surprisingly Bayern Munich did not take part in the first edition of the Bundesliga in 1963 but, after joining the league a few years later they became a force to reckon with in German and European football in the late 60s and 70s with players like Franz Beckenbauer and Gerd Müller. During his successful period, they won five German Championships, four German Cups, three Champions Leagues and a UEFA Cup.

10. Julio dos Santos

Starting the list is Julio dos Santos. The young player was named the Paraguayan Footballer of the Year in 2005. The 23 year old got into the Bayern Munchen first team but failed to compete for a spot with Michael Ballack in the team who was the first choice in the team, stiff competition from the others meant that the young midfielders chances in the team where limited.

The Brazilian only managed to play 10 games for the Bavarians before he was sent out on loan to Wolfsburg were he suffered a major injury and was deported back to Brazil because the player never recovered his form.

9. Danijel Pranjic

The Croatian was signed for Bayern Munich in 2009 for a fee of £5 million from Dutch club Heerenveen. The Croatian failed to make an impact in his first season as he failed to hold down a regular spot in the first team for Bayern Munich.

In the second season he played more games but was unable to keep his place going into the third season with the club and was released at the end of the season due to limited game time.

8. Takashi Usami

Regarded as the next big thing in Asia, the Japanese failed to live upto the expectations during his brief stint with German giants Bayern Munich. The Japenese forward only played five games for the club before he was loaned out to Hoffenheim and a return to the Japanese league with Gamba Osaka.

Since his return to the Japanese League, the forward has re-established himself as a top goal scorer and it won’t be long enough till he returns to European football.

7. Vahid Hashemian

Vahid Hashemian is another Iranian failure at Bayern Munich after fellows Ali Daei and Ali Karimi. The Iranian striker was signed by Bayern Munchen for a gamble price of just £1 million after he netted 16 goals in 32 appearances for Bochum during the 2003-04 season. It was so unfortunate that the striker failed to replicate the season he had with Bochum and was sold a year later to Hannover 96 for just £910k.

6. Lukas Podolski

In sixth is former Arsenal man Lukas Podolski. The German played for Bayern Munich in his early party of his career his short stint with the Bavaria was considered to be a failure and was offloaded to his old club FC Koln.

After recovering his career at Koln, Podolski joined Bayern Munich for 7 million in 2007 but hardly made an impact with the Bavarians due to a number of injuries and competition with other senior players.

5. Tobias Rau

Tobias Rau joined Bayern in 2003, the player had already been capped by his national team at senior level and was guaranteed a place by the Bavarian team. Unfortunately the German’s career at Bayern Munich never really took off due to a number of injuries even when he regained fitness he found it hard to get into the team because of stiff competition with more established players.

After just 19 games with the club, Tobias Rau joined Arminia Bielefeld in 2005, even at Bielefeld his injuries continued and forced him to retire in 2009.

4. Sebastian Deisler

One who was considered to be the golden boy of German football though he career never really took of because of a series of injuries. Deisler started his career in German with Borussia Monchengladbach then moved to Hertha Berlin and finally Bayern Munich where he played until retiring at the age of 27.

Sebastian Deisler was signed for £6.30 million in the summer of 2001 not thinking about his injury problems, in four and half years at Bayern Munich he only managed to play 90 games for the Bavaria before retiring.

3. Marcell Jansen 

In third is Marcell Jansen, he signed for Bayern Munich in the summer of 2007 the youngster was signed from his home town club Borussia Monchengladbach for £9.80 million as a long-term successor of Zé Roberto and Bixente Lizarazu. Marcell Jansen was good at his position and was considered one of the best young talents in Europe.

After just a year with Bayern the young man was offloaded to Bundesliga rivals Hamburg after a series of injuries and falling out of favor with then manager Jürgen Klinsmann.

At Hamburg, he went on to make 187 appearances for the club before retiring at the age of 29 when the club didn’t offer him a contract extension.

2. Jose Ernesto Sosa

Number two on our list of the Top 10 Worst Bayern Munich Players of All Time is Sosa. The Argentine was signed for £6 million from Estudiantes after the youngster was impressive at the club.

Despite showing potential to excel at the club, the players inconsistency made him fail to have a spot into the first team at the club which led him to leaving the club a few years later.

The Argentine only managed to score two goals in 53 appearances for the Bavarians before leaving German football to play in the Serie A and Spanish League with Atletico Madrid.

1. Breno

The first spot on this list of the Top 10 Worst Bayern Munich Players of All Time  goes to Breno. The Brazilian right back was regarded as one of the brightest young Brazilian talent’s in word football and caught Bayern Munich’s eye and released £8 million for the young defender but only managed a total of 33 appearances for the first team with injuries make him miss most of the time with the team.
