10. Erik Meijer

Kick starting the list of the Top 10 Worst Liverpool Signings of All Time is Erik Meijer. This player enjoyed successful spells in the Dutch league and in Germany before finally moving to the Premier League with Liverpool. Meijer joined The Reds in 1999 from Bayer Leverkusen. He was loved for his ”never die attitude” but he only managed to score two goals for the Kop.

He was later loaned to Preston End a team which played in the lower divisions but he failed to score a single goal for the club before eventually moving to Hamburg in 2000.

9. Fabio Borini 

In Ninth is current Sunderland player Fabio Borini who makes the list of the Top 10 Worst Liverpool Signings of All Time. Fabio Borini was one of Brendan Rodgers first signings after he was signed from the Serie A for £9.31 million. Brendan thought he was a good signing but was a player who lacked confidence in front of goal.

He hardly played for Liverpool but when he played he did nothing but anger the fans.

8. Josemi

In eighth is Josemi. When Rafa Benitez joined the club, Josemi was his first signing back in 2004. He only managed to make 16 starts for the redin a year and a half before he was sold back to Spain but he joined Villareal in a swap deal. The Spanish built a great reputation in Spanish football before a series of injuries followed with poor performances and found it hard to break into the Liverpool first team.

7. Alberto Aquilani

In Seventh, is no other than Alberto Aquilani, who was brought into the club as a Xabi Alonso replacement for £14 million in 2009 when Xabi Alonso joined Real Madrid. Due to injuries, Alberto did not start any Premier League game for the Reds until boxing day that year.

His injuries and loan spells away from the Premier League with Juventus and AC Milan only allowed him to play 28 games for the reds before finally moving away from the club to join Fiorentino.

6. Pegguy Arphexad

In sixth is a goalkeeper. Pegguy was signed from Leicester City after he produced a stunning display in the 2000 FA Cup against Liverpool in the FA Cup. The player joined the club on a free transfer but hardly played any games for the Reds. This player only managed to make six appearances since joining the club before a couple of loan spells and a permanent move away from Liverpool to join Coventry City in 2003. 5. Robbie Keane

Closing down the top five of the Top 10 Worst Liverpool Signings of All Time is Robbie Keane. The Irishman joined rivals Liverpool from Tottenham for a reported fee of £16.8 million. Liverpool was under the management of Rafa Benitez who believed Keane was the missing piece in the jigsaw puzzle for the Premier League but things didn’t go according to plan. Well Robbie Keane was a total flop at the club and was re-sold to the club for £11.69 million just after a half season at Anfield.

4. Djimi Traore

Coming in at number four is Djimi Traore. This player will only remembered at Liverpool for scoring one of the best own goals of all times in the FA Cup in 2005 against Burnley.

The Malian footballer was signed from the French Ligue by Gerard Houllier. Traore played over 100 games for Liverpool in what was a successful period for the club but the defender was not upto his full potential as he often made mistakes.

He later left the club in 2006 and played for six different clubs before retiring with the Seattle Sounders.

3. El-Hadji Diouf

El Hadji Diouf joined Liverpool after a successful campaign at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea with Senegal he joined the club together with fellow Senegalese Salif Diao.

The club paid a fee of £10 million which he demanded which was quite risky but the club believed that the Senegalese would be a success in the Premier League following his performances at the World Cup. But that would not be the case as he was a total flop in the Premier League, only managing to score six goals in 80 appearances for Liverpool, before finally he was sent off to Bolton Wanderers.

Diouf had built a good career in France with the previous clubs he played for.

2. Mario Balotelli

Not long ago he was considered as one of the best footballers in the world, but Mario Balotelli makes it it to the list of the Worst Liverpool Signings of all time following his 14 million transfer from AC Milan to Liverpool in 2014. He was signed as a potential replacement from Luis Suarez after he left for Barcelona after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

After joining Liverpool nothing seemed to go right for the Italian forward. He only managed to find the back of the net four times in 27 appearances at Liverpool.

1. Andy Carroll

Topping the list is English man Andy Carroll, the former Liverpool man is currently playing for West Ham United. Andy Carroll joined Liverpool in 2011 from Newcastle United for a fee of £35 million making him the clubs most expensive signing of all time then, the Kop brought him into the team after selling striker Fernando Torres to Chelsea for a staggering £50 million so they need a replacement. Because of injury problems the Englishman faced he didn’t make his debut until March and only managed to score two goals in his debut season. The following season he only managed to score nine times in 47 appearances for the Kopites, he was eventually sold by Brendan Rodgers to West Ham United for £12.25 million.
