Manchester City will not panic buy in January despite injury fears

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has confirmed that the club will not be forced into buying players in the winter transfer market despite the growing injury list at Etihad.

The Blues boss was asked in the press conference today if he is planning to bring in further reinforcements in the January transfer window due to the long list of injured players in his squad. Manchester City have had an electric start to the new season building on the success of the previous year.

They fell to their first domestic defeat last week but have otherwise looked untouchable. However, the worry for Guardiola comes in another department with several key first team players out on long spells. This includes explosive left back Benjamin Mendy, who has been unfortunate with injuries for quite sometime now. There is also backup goalkeeper Claudio Bravo and most importantly Manchester City’s key player Kevin De Bruyne.

De Bruyne’s brilliance shone out last year in the star-studded Manchester City team and although City have done well so far to hide his absence through Bernardo SIlva, the season might prove too long for the Portuguese to keep performing day in day out, case in point, the Chelsea match.

There is also Sergio Aguero who missed last week’s game through an injury which forced Pep to start Sterling centrally.

However, it seems despite these difficulties Pep is determined to stick to their initial transfer plans and not panic buy in January.

“In January we are not going to sign anyone,” Pep signed off from his conference.
