F1 Highlights Today: 70th Anniversary GP

Lewis Hamilton took the lead in the driver’s standings after a fitting display in Hungary right after his debut win this campaign in Austria. He swerved the Mercedes through treacherous rain conditions during the Styrian GP qualifiers and dominated the entire weekend in Hungary. Coming into the Silverstone circuit as the record-winner will give him confidence to further himself in the Championship race.

Otherwise, it was a good outing for Racing Point with Lance Stroll claiming fourth. Max Verstappen remarkably grabbed second even after crashing his Red Bull right before the race. Overall, there was a lack of competition for Hamilton but a lot of drama in the middle positions. Sebastien Vettel did collect some points in sixth but Charles LeClerc came in at eleventh after being put on the wrong set of tyres.

70th Anniversary GP Prediction And Preview

The upcoming 70th Anniversary Grand Prix for 2020 is due to be held in Silverstone, known as the “home of British racing”. The Royal Automobile Club organizes the event in Northampshire every year since 1948. FIA has allowed the same circuit to host to Grand Prixs this year due to the ongoing health crisis worldwide. Of course, the second one will held under a different name – “70th Anniversary Grand Prix”. Last year, it was the 70th edition of the race which Lewis Hamilton won comfortably.

The British race is the oldest in the Formula One World Championship calendar Their first championship season was held right here in 1950 and the Italian Grand Prix are the only other Championship Grand Prix that have been held every year since then. Several fans enjoy this racetrack more than the other ones on the F1 calendar, as Hamilton said, “The 70th Anniversary Grand Prix is the best grand prix, particularly because of the fans, the thousands that turn up and really create the spectacle. So it’s going to be super weird. That is something I think I am still coming to terms with.”

He added: “The whole year… it’s the highlight of my year, the support is insane. It grows every year and I get to interact with the fans differently on that weekend and it’s such an honour and privilege to be able to perform well and win a Grand Prix in your home country.”
