New Fenerbache defender mocks Reds after failed attempt

Danish centre-back Simon Kjaer has mocked Liverpool after they failed to sign him this summer by insisting that he snubbed a move to Anfield because he wants to win championships.

The 26-year-old left French side Lille and despite being wanted by the Premier League side, he agreed a four-year deal with Turkish giants Fenerbache instead.

Kjaer was one of Brendan Rodgers‘ top transfer targets for the summer after being impressed with the Danes performances throughout the Ligue 1 campaign.

However, when speaking about his move to Turkey and snubbing Liverpool, he added salt to the wound by saying his desire to win trophies lead him to rejecting the Merseyside club.

Kjaer Mocks Liverpool

‘Liverpool wanted me but I want to win championships, I want to win trophies,’ he told Haber Turk.

‘Fenerbahce’s goals this season are big and it was explained to me very well.’

The 26-year-old has made 50 appearances for Denmark and secured a £5.4million switch to Fenerbache this summer.

Near Misses for Liverpool

Despite Kjaer’s comments, Liverpool nearly won the Premier League last season and fell just short in two cup competitions this season, reaching the semi-final in both the FA Cup and the Capital One Cup.

However, near misses seemingly aren’t good enough for this defender.
