FC Basel midfielder set for Arsenal switch

Arsenal have agreed a fee with Swiss side FC Basel for midfield-star Mohamed Elneny, according to reports.

The 23-year-old is making a good impression over in Switzerland with some high-level performances for Basel, and he could now be set for a move to the Premier League.

The Egyptian international is reportedly on his way to the Premier League after Arsenal agreed to pay Basel £5million, and all that is left for the deal to be finalised is personal terms to be agreed and a medical to be taken.

Elneny will hold formal talks with Arsenal officials in the New Year and will then undergo a medical in London ahead of the proposed switch.

With Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla both injured for the foreseeable future, Elneny will provide important cover for Arsene Wenger as they look to win the Premier League title for the first time in over a decade.

Elneny only has six months left on his contract at Basel, so the Swiss club are ready to sell in January so that they don’t lose him on a free.
