Arsenal have ramped up their interest in William Carvalho and Sami Khedira after an injury picked up by Mikel Arteta during their Champions League qualifier against Besiktas on Tuesday night, has ruled him out for a few weeks.
The Spaniard left Turkey in a protective boot and it’s believed that he will miss the next few weeks, leaving Arsenal with just Matheiu Flamini as a fit and recognised holding-midfielder.
With the injury to Arteta, Arsene Wenger is now ready to step-up his chase in finding a new midfielder, and his two main targets are Carvalho from Sporting Lisbon, and Khedira from Real Madrid, both whom are wanted by Chelsea as well.
Carvalho is currently Wenger’s main target, but with Madrid eager to sell Khedira, the Frenchman may be tempted to go back in for the German international, due to his price-tag being diminished as he enters the final year of his contract at the Bernabeu.
Arsenal were already in the market for defensive reinforcements, but the injury to Arteta has seen Wenger ramp up his interest and has forced him into acting quickly into signing someone.
