Arsenal interested in Chris Smalling

Arsenal are ready to make a formal move for Manchester United defender, Chris Smalling, and could pay up to £10million for the centre-back.

The Englishman, who was sent off in the first-half against Manchester City at the weekend, may find it hard to get back into Louis Van Gaal’s team, especially after the Dutchman called him ‘stupid’ for his two bookable offences.

Smalling was cautioned for blocking a Joe Hart clearance and then was booked just past the half-hour mark for sliding in on James Milner and getting the timing all wrong.

United went on to lose 1-0 and it now looks like Smalling could be on his way out and could become the second United player to join Arsenal under the Van Gaal era.

Striker, Danny Welbeck, joined Arsene Wenger’s men on Transfer Deadline Day in the Summer, and with a £10m bid looming, Smalling could join his former team-mate.

The Gunners are seriously weak at the back with a couple of injuries to first-team players, and Wenger has already admitted that defensive reinforcements are needed in January.
