Arsene Wenger is keeping close tabs on Sokratis

Arsenal once again have struggled defensively this season. They are currently 6th in the premier League and on the verge of missing Champions League next season. They have conceded 41 Premier League goals this season and only Leicester City conceded more of the teams in top 8.

With Per Mertesacker set to retire at the end of the season while Rob Holding and Calum Chambers have struggled to perform on a regular basis,  Arsene Wenger wants to add defensive reinforcements this summer.

According to Gazzetta, Arsenal are reportedly preparing a move to sign Borussia Dortmund ace Sokratis Papastathopoulos in the summer transfer window. Wenger has been a long time admirer of Sokratis. He wants someone to provide stability in Arsenal’s defense and thinks the Dortmund’s defender could be that.

The 29 year is old is having another solid season and has made 25 appearances for the club. But the defender is expected to leave this summer, with his contract expiring in the summer of 2019. Dortmund are also ready to listen offers from potential suitors.

Chelsea, Manchester United and Juventus are also keeping tabs on the Greek International.

Sokratis has made 192 appearances for Dortmund since he joined them from Werder Bremen in 2013.
