Mesut Ozil should be dropped to prove a point to Arsenal squad, says Martin Keown.
Mesut Ozil is ‘not the right player’ to help Arsenal regain their form and he should be dropped if his performance levels don’t improve, says Martin Keown.
The German playmaker signed a new long-term deal with the club in January but his and his side’s form has plummeted since.
Keown has been particularly scathing of the Gunners’ form in recent weeks and he believes dropping Ozil would prove a point to the rest of the squad.
“Wenger will always pick Mesut Ozil but I am not sure he is the right player to get them out of this situation,” Keown told the Daily Mail.
“Ozil needs to dig deep and if he is not going to, then he should not be playing. I want to see the Arsenal player who is taking this bad run personally and digging out his team-mates who are not working hard enough.”
Arsenal will be without injured trio Alexandre Lacazette, Aaron Ramsey and Hector Bellerin at the San Siro, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is ineligible.
