Atletico Madrid enter Cavani race

Atletico Madrid have confirmed that they are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain striker, Edinson Cavani, in the Summer.

The Uruguayan is strongly tipped to leave the French capital after yet another season spent out on the wing in order for Zlatan Ibrahimovic to start as the main striker, and despite three Premier League sides interested, a move to Spain could be an option for the hitman.

Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal have all been linked with the 28-year-old, but in a recent interview, Diego Simeone’s coach confirmed that the club is looking into signing the striker.

“An interest in Cavani? Yes, there is.

“As long as there’s a chance, we will see what he can offer us.

“But it depends on his interest in us too.”

Diego Forlan has also tipped Cavani to make the move to Atletico, a place where he spent a portion of his career.

“Cavani to Atletico Madrid? It would be spectacular.

“He is a great striker and he is in great shape.

“I think his style of play would be ideal for Atletico because he is a fast player who likes to counter-attack and to play in space.

“With the exception of [Mario] Mandzukic, the club has always had these kinds of players” Torres, Aguero, Costa, Falcao or even me.”
