Spanish champions interested in Man United target
Manchester United will have to battle Barcelona in the race to sign Sporting Lisbon winger Gelson Martins, after the Spanish club admitted they’ve been scouting the young sensation.
The 21-year old impressed in a game vs Real Madrid this season, and his form has earned him a call up to the Portugal national side for upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Ariedo Braida, international director of sports at Barcelona, confirmed that they were keeping an eagle eye on Gelson’s progress.
He told Portuguese newspaper Record : “The only thing I can say is that we are watching Gelson.
“He’s a young player with a lot of talent who Barcelona are observing and will continue to observe. We have reports on various players and Gelson is one of them.”
Reports in Portugal suggest that Real Madrid and Manchester United have also shown an early interest in Gelson’s services, but now Barcelona will battle with them to try and sign him, with Sporting thought to want a fee around the £52million mark.
