Bony: Toure ‘needs to stay’

The City striker claims his Ivorian team-mate was key to his move

“Don’t walk out on us” urged the former Swansea man after reports have emerged Toure is off in the summer.

Problems began to emerge about a year ago, when Toure’s agent, Dimitri Seluk claimed his client was unhappy about how little fuss the club had made for his 31st birthday.

Toure was also forbidden from taking compassionate leave following the death of his younger brother, Ibrahim, according to Seluk.

Consolation prize

Luis Suarez claimed both Player of the Year awards instead of Toure – despite scoring 24 times and helping City win two trophies – which has left the midfielder disgruntled, added Seluk.

Bony is desperate to see the man who – convinced him to make the switch from the Liberty to the Etihad stadium – stay describing the 32-year-old as a “legend”.

He added: “he’s a big player… Look at everything he has done over the years here, what an important player he has been.”

Dip in form

Toure’s performances have been left wanting this season; the midfielder has scored just eight league goals but Bony insists three major tournaments in three years has taken it’s toll.

Bony, 26, described how “difficult” lining up in two African Nations cups and a World Cup has been for his colleague.

Interested parties

The decision by the City midfielder to leave in the summer has alerted a host of European clubs, including Inter Milan, Juventus and PSG.

Toure was unwilling to talk about his future yesterday instead demanding FIFA step up their efforts to tackle racism on the day they announce new monitors to combat the problem.

The former Barcelona man has campaigned strongly ever since he was racially abused whilst playing for City against CSKA Moscow in 2013.
