Rodgers has put Steven Gerrard’s mind at ease by claiming Liverpool feels like ‘home’.

The manager’s contract is up at the end of next season but he has no intention of going elsewhere.

The Reds head into the trip to Cardiff on Saturday knowing they’ve negotiated a decent position towards the top of the Premier League as the run-in begins.

Last weekend’s 3-0 humiliation of Manchester United put the marker down that Rodgers’ side are capable of winning the league after winning each of their last five and holding an unbeaten run that stretches back to 2013.

In the aftermath of that result at Old Trafford, Gerrard was insistent that the club should do all they can in order to keep hold of Rodgers.

The Northern Irishman is one of the more sought-after bosses in management after overseeing a complete overhaul of how things are done at Anfield.

Rodgers is a man with a plan and said on Thursday: ‘We are ahead of schedule. I couldn’t think about being anywhere else. I feel very much at home here.

‘It gives me happiness that the captain, with his iconic status, has said those words. As a manager you aim to get the respect of the players. It is not about being liked.’

This is very much uncharted territory for both the crop of players and manager, but Rodgers is retaining a calm persona – even if things are a little different under the surface.

‘The pressure doesn’t change,’ he added. ‘When you play for Liverpool, it’s there every game. We have scored a lot of goals but could have had more. We want to get the job done, like we did against Southampton.

‘It’s good for the supporters to dream. It’s great pride for them to see their players represent the shirt so well. There hasn’t been any talk of winning the title.
