Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, has revealed that he wanted to recall Divock Origi this month but was resigned to the deal not happening.

The Reds signed the Belgium striker in the Summer for ÂŁ10million after he had an impressive World Cup in Brazil, but then they agreed to send him back out on loan to French side, Lille.

However, in the first half of the Premier League season, Liverpool struggled for goals after Luis Suarez’s departure and Daniel Sturridge’s injury.

Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini have all failed to impress during the season, and Rodgers has revealed that he wanted to bring back Origi in the Winter window.

“It was, but knowing we would not have him this season was something I had resigned myself to in the summer,” Rodgers told talkSPORT.

“Of course, at the beginning of the season when we were looking for goals and needed that pace and pressure at the top of the field it is you something you look at and hope you had him here.

“I always knew though he was going to be there for the season.

“It was very clear in the contract, and I look forward to getting him in the summer.”
