Cech set to leave Chelsea in the summer

Charlie Nicholas believes that Manchester United should sign Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech, in the summer.

Cech looks set to depart Chelsea in the summer, after eleven years at Stamford Bridge, having fallen out of favour, with Jose Mourinho opting for Thibaut Courtois instead.

The Czech Republic international is not willing to spend another season rotting on the bench at the West London outfit.

And Sky Sports’ pundit Nicholas thinks that United should move for the keeper, should David De Gea depart Old Trafford in the summer.

“If David de Gea leaves for Real Madrid, then you go out and get Petr Cech, if Chelsea are willing to sell to a rival club that is,” Nicholas said.

“He’s the sort of player that can come in and provide the sort of presence which will make the defence feel settled.”

De Gea could depart

The 24-year-old Spaniard has been linked with a return to his native country, with Real Madrid reportedly interested in the shot-stopper, who has impressed for United this season.

Should Louis Van Gaal decide to cash in on De Gea, United would be in pole position to beat Premier league rivals, Arsenal and Liverpool to the signing of Chelsea’s veteran keeper.
