Shakhtar Donetsk confirm they WON’T be selling before Monday

Chelsea and Liverpool have both been dealt a massive blow in their pursuit for Alex Teixeira with Shakhtar Donetsk ruling out the possibility of selling the striker before Monday.

The Premier League duo have been keen on signing the Brazilian throughout the January transfer window, but the Ukrainian club have confirmed they will only consider selling in the summer.

Liverpool have reportedly had three formal bids turned down by Shakhtar, with the latest being worth around ÂŁ31million, but the offer still fell short of the ÂŁ38m valuation that the Ukraine side have.

Speaking about the striker, chief executive Sergei Palkin, confirmed that they have no plans on selling him before Monday’s deadline and will only consider selling at the end of the season.

Statement

“They offered €32m (£24.4m) with a €4m (£3m) bonus,” Palkin told TV channel Football 1.

“We obviously refused to accept it.

“Our position is that we do not want to sell Teixeira today. We will sell only at the end of the season. We need to show serious results in Europa League and Ukrainian Championship.

“At the end of the season we will sit down at the negotiating table.

“His buyout clause is €70m (£53m). Target it if you want it now. We don’t mind.”

The news will come as a big blow to Teixeira, as he is desperate to complete a transfer to Liverpool this window.
