Chelsea rule out Atletico Madrid signing
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has played down reports that the club are going after £43m rated Atletico Madrid attacker Antoine Griezmann.
Griezmann is a target for Manchester United, but Mourinho says that the Premier League champions will not be fighting for his signature.
Griezmann joined Atletico only last summer from fellow La Liga side Real Sociedad for £24m.
After scoring 22 goals last season, Griezmann is sure to be sought after throughout Europe this summer, with United particularly keen.
Mourinho Rules Out Interest
However, Mourinho, speaking to Spanish newspaper Marca, flatly said: “Griezmann is a great striker but is not within our objectives to strengthen the squad for next season.
“We’re not interested.”
Frenchman Griezmann, 24, was La Liga Player of the Month for January 2015, and his tally of 22 goals is the highest recorded by a Frenchman in a single La Liga season.
He has worked his way up through the French international setup, with caps at U19, U20 and U21 levels, before making his senior debut last year.
